Cool Any ideas!

I guess no responses to my first try means that Vizsla's are not a common breed
If that is the case can anyone suggest a breed of dog that is very short haired, likes to excercise, is friendly & loyal, gets along with a cat but will still act as a deterent to prowlers. I don't want a guard dog but as long as it is not as soft as a Lab & wouldn't lick a robber to death, that would be good.
I have the chance of geting a Kangal but they are huge & frighten me for a first dog.
Any ideas would be very useful.

Thank you

Also not supposed to be good with other pets. )

hi
my cous has a beagle and yes he does bark but it isnt very annoying and he has learnt to stop barking when told off, every dog will bark to get attention, it all depends how you bring them up, if corrected from a young age there a cracking dog. As for not getting on with other animals thats another thing that could be debatable, if when brought into a home it is first introduced to the existing pets they should learn to live in harmony. the beagle my cousin has loves visiting our house an plays with my 2 lhasa apsos without any prob, they were introduced as puppies an see each other reguarly.just no matter what kind of pup you get make sure you socialize it from an early age. Another point is that we have recently moved house and our new neighbours have a beagle, a shitzu and a cat.
were abouts are you based? have u any other ideas in mind? would you definately not consider a long haired dog which you can keep trim?

I live in Turkey & my favorite dog is a Vizsla but I think they will be very difficult to get hold of. Beagles I like the look of & you have reduced some of my qualms.
The problem is that my wife beleives that most longer haired dogs have a smell & they shed heavily. That's why I am concentrating on short haired easy maintanance dogs. I've also never had a dog before so I want to minimise the possible problems. We are hoping to move from our flat to a house in the country which is why I am considering a dog as I need the excercise & would enjoy the companionship. I may even settle for a rescue dog.
All these things I have time to think about as I think it will probably be early next year before we can move but I just want to get as much information as possible to make the right choice.
Your help has been excellent )
Thanks

Default hi

hi again,
would also like to add dont rule out a long haired down because it casts, not all of them do and some short haired dogs r worse for it. i personally have 2 lhasa apsos both in full coat and i can honestly say they dont cast, ul not find a dogs hair in my house. my friend has a jack russel and its terrible for casting hairs.
about the smell, most dogs smell its not just the long haired, all dogs have a doggy smell especially when wet and dried without washing with shampoo. i wash my dogs on a weekly basis, dont let them out on wet days except to the toilet and this keeps the smell to a minimun. if u keep on top of ur daily grooming for 10 mins a day it shouldnt be a prob.
a lhasa apso would make for a good companion if you and your wife considered long haired dogs, but again they can be kept trim and short.

Thumbs up Thanks again

Hello,
Thanks again for the info. It means that I am going to have to start again & look at long haired dogs but I will enjoy finding out more about the breeds. The only problem that I can see is that I want to be out & about with my dog playing in all conditions so if they have longer hair it may be very difficult to keep them clean but not impossible.
Your breed looks lovely but I bet they take some grooming
Thanks again for all the info. It's nice of you to spend the time. I hope you get some replies to your query.
