New to Dogs

I have been thinking of getting a dog for sometime now as I hope to be leaving my flat soon as soon as it sells & getting a house in the country.
After looking through the various breeds I have fallen in love with the Vizsla & was wondering if this is a good idea and if it is a common breed or not. I live in Turkey & thought they may be difficult to obtain here so if anyone know's I would be most grateful.
There is just the two of us plus 1 cat & I am looking for a dog to excercise with & be my best mate. It would also help as a deterant if the wife is in on her own.
Any help on this breed or any others you feel may be more apropriate would be of help.
