:)I am new to the saint bernard breed and Zulu is getting fixed next week. Our vet suggested stapling her stomach now to prevent any twisted stomach problems later. Does anybody know anything about this or has had this done? Thanks for taking the time to read this!

Gastric dilatation-volvulus (GDV) is what happens when the stomach bloats. the esophagus is closed off, limiting the dog's ability to relieve distention by vomiting or belching, and often the spleen becomes entrapped as well, and its blood supply is cut off. unfortunately it is common in big dogs, large chested dogs especially, and also very serious. without IMMEDIATE surgery to untwist the stomach, the condition can be fatal within 30 minutes.
here is a website with more information on it: http://www.canismajor.com/dog/bloat.html
