Doberman pup

i just bought a 5 months old doberman pup. I already walk him around the neighbor, park for him to get used to his new environment. But the only problem i concern is that he is very shy to other dog. When ever he see other dog he seem to be scare and will run or stand behind me. Even a dog like 1/3 or 1/2 his size will scare him. Is this how new pup suppose to be act ?

congratulations on getting your new babe and i hope you have many a good happy times together.
Because hes a pup meeting other dogs is a new experience to him and very frightening he will soon come round to other dogs coming towards him when your out and other friendly dogs approach bend down to your pups level and keep talking to him and holding your hand out to the other dog so your pup dosent see them as a threat but make sure the other dogs are friendly:)

thanks, my family really love him, we have to drove 4 hours to pick him up. Except my two cousins and their parents, age 7 and 4. They seem to scare because they think he is a huge puppy, i totally understand. My 2 cousins' parent are way over protect their child. They wouldn't let him touch him, whenever they touch him, their mom/dad will seem like not happy and yell at them. I only have him for like 4 days, picked him up on Sunday, he's seem to be shy and mellow. We will go to the our first training lesson at Petmarts on this Sunday. I just can't wait to bring him there to meet with other dog. So far I'm happy with his home training. When we take a walk, he always seem to carefully look around, sniff here and there. I just teach him how to get in the car and get out but sometimes, take a little longer for him to get in or out.

aww you will both love the training lessons there so much fun your pup will get used to different sounds other pups around him and this will boost his confidence:)
