Dog specific legislation

Since this is so big in the news, I thought it would be cool to start a topic on it... what do you guys think about breed-specific laws/legislation? Like with Pit Bulls and other 'potentially dangerous' breeds?

In my opinion it's a bad idea... and from what I've read it seems unjustified, but I don't know that much about it.

I think the legislation should be "owner specific" not breed specific!!! I am a firm believer that there are no bad dogs, just bad owners!!!! If the dog is raised with a good hand, than it will be a good dog. As soon as abuse and cruelty is introduced, or people who train them to be mean and agressive comes into play, you end up with what some classify as a "bad dog", without considering the cause.

i couldn't agree more. i don't know how people could believe that all dogs of a certain breed are "vicious." it's like racism turned toward dogs.
