I have a 6 month old Schipperke puppy and she is sooooo crazy. I was just wondering if anyone else out there has a Schipperke and if you could provide any tips on handling the breed, etc. We got her from a breeder when she was 9 weeks old. She's so cute and we love her dearly, but man! She is out of control!!! I would love any stories or tips in reference to the breed.
Thanks,
Megan

"The Little Skipper." Great little dogs. Friendly, energetic, and...as a rule...wicked smart.
You'll have a ball with that one.

Yes, actually, I have a schipperke named Allie. She is very precious to our family and a livewire!! She is rambunctious, but not as crazy as when we first got her. Don't worry, they'll soon grow calm and they're a perfect companion and just a huge lovely addition to a family. I love schipperkes and my mommy had another one, too, but it passed when I was a baby, and my mom says they are her favorite breed because they're the friendliest things. Watch out for them when they're younger, because mine escaped underneath the fence several times, then got too fat for it and stopped. They love adventures, so let them ride in the front seat of a car and crack the window only a tinsy bit. Allie, my schipperke, tried jumping out of it once. Just alerting you if you put the window down the whole way. Allie loves it when I play with her outside, and they're active during the day, so try and take them on walks. And actually, the breeder we got our schipperke from told my momma that female schipperkes are rather fat when they grow up, like mine. They do shed a lot, not a WHOLE lot, but . . . well, actually, yeah, a WHOLE lot. LOL. But it's okay. Just be aware that when you want to go to a special occasion that their black hair will get EVERYWHERE on your clothes and hands. Overall, they are a perfect dog.
