Hi,

I have been trying to find a good breeder for Irish Wolfhounds and have had quite a bit of trouble. After EIGHT emails to the breed clubs (local and National) , with NO RESPONSE, I am at my wits end. Since the IW is a giant breed, it is especially important that I find a breeder of well-conformed, healthy puppies from good breeding stock.

I spoke to one breeder that give a 48 hour guarantee on her puppies! She also want $1750/pup. That is outrageous!

All I would like is to find a reputable Irish Wolfhound breeder. I won't be ready for the puppy for 6 months to a year, but I believe in researching everything about a breed, the breeders and everything having to do with helping my pup live a long, healthy life.

If you know of a good Wolfie breeder, please let me know. I am in Western NC.

Hi there,

I am not sure if I can help, but we have had Rhodesians for years, thought we would get a pup, but ran into the same thing...breeders wanted $1900 per pup, or could go with backyard for $500 a pup....then I went looking on the internet and found many purebreds that were in need of a good home through reputable Rescues...they get pups sometimes, but we have had awesome luck with all pups and adults we have gotten through State Rescues and I would highly recommend them. The websites will have detailed info on the breed, they are in great health and you always have someone to offer support with questions. They are serious, they will do 1 announced home inspection and 1 unannounced...we laugh, probably more involved than a human adoption...just kidding, but wonderful animals.

I hope this helps, and good luck. Just type in Irish Wolfhound Rescue and see what comes up.

The first palce I went was to the Irish Wolfhound Club of America's rescue links. Good luck with that! They do not even acknowledge that you have emailed or sent in an application for rescue.

I did finally find a breeder, in Texas, that has a wonderful outlook on breeding and beautiful dogs. I will probably wind up getting a puppy from her.

Thank you for the response.

I am really sorry to hear that, that is a shame! I am glad to hear you found a breeder and wish you the best of luck! I had no idea about rescues like that, I have gone through one in AZ, KY, and OH and always got a response within a few days...even kept me up to date weekly when none were available. Well, good luck to you!

Thanks Tammy,

I have rescued Rotties and Neapolitan Mastiffs before and had great luck with those rescues. I think the IW people are just a little disorganized! LOLOL

I can imagine that would be very discouraging! I guess I am just one of those people that lives life trying to beiliev that all is well with everyone...I know, get a grip on reality....lol...I know most rescuers are doing the best they can between work and life, most volunteer their time...I can't imagine myself....well, best of luck and thanks for the repor! Have a good one,
Tammy
