Hello!

I'm very excited to be adding a second dog to my family in the near cuture. I already have 1 dog (Tucker, male, 5yrs, poodleXbichon frise) but me and my entire family are dog lovers and a second pup seems like a great addition for us! Tucker is our family dog, but the new dog would be my responsibility. However, my parents will deffinetly help with money and any assistance I need.

As I'm sure alot of you know, choosing an ideal breed can be a tricky task, so I'm hoping I could get a few opinions from this forum.

I'm looking for a medium/large sized dog (40-65lbs), high energy, friendly, and socialable with other dogs. He/she should be at least tolerant of strangers, but hopefully not prefer them over his/her mom, like my other dog does (btw, my dog loves me, but he REALLY loves strangers too....alot). I was thinking an english springer spaniel, but I'd like some opinions. I like springers because they're soo sweet and I have a fair amount of experiance with them.

Anyy reccomendations? Thanks for your time! :)

Erm...Golden Retriever? Almost every family has one!
Friendly with everyone (human and other dogs alike).
Energetic when outside...calm and affectionate at home.
Loves everyone but has a special affection to his daddy/mummy. (I know as my buddy has one...his goldie is pal with EVERYONE but you can see he behaves differently with my friend).

Well personally don't think you could go wrong with a German Shepherd. They are not the waggy tail, I love everybody yes men dog that the Labrador is, they are loyal and usually just want to be with their immediate family. They are wonderful with children and sociable with other dogs. They are intelligent and very trainable. They are very loyal to their 'one person' in the family but are good with the other members too.

Try a lab. Will lay down and be calm when you want him to....will run and play fetch whenever you want to.....easily trainable (a big plus)....clean in a house, gentle, calm and great with kids....knows when to be sociable and when to protect....a great companion.
Any dog is great with the right owner. If a dog is a problem, it's usually the owner and upbringing but breeds do have some unique characteristics. Spaniels especially springers, are not the greatest with kids as they get older. Terriers can be fun but usually have stubborn streaks. Too much aggression is not always great is you love having a busy social home as sometimes they act first, think later.........all dogs protect and provide undying devotion.
I've always had an affinity to the gentle, calm, intelligent devotion of various 'water' dogs.......Newfies, labs, etc. Don't look at puppies until you've researched exactly what breed you want.........as who can possibly turn down any puppy.....they're so irresistable! Good luck!
