When you first arrive at the ring (ahead of time), you collect your number and put it on your upper left arm (rubberbands are available) from the person sitting at a table at the entrance to the ring. When judging starts, there's always an order -- male puppies first, then next age group (if any there), bred-by-exhibitor, and then open dogs. After the males are finished being judged, the bitches are judged in the same order. When dogs are to enter the ring, the ring steward calls out the class and numbers of the exhibitors that are to enter. Don't be afraid to ask the person sitting at the table questions if you don't understand something.
