Hello to everyone here. I am very excited about this forum. I am a dog lover from way back. My name is Rhonda, and I have a new little baby, her name is Sugar. I just lost my little dog of 1 year, and I was devistated, still am !! My husband was so worried about me that he thought I needed another puppy to take care of. He was right !! I will never get over the loss of my little Rudy, but my little Sugar does help to ease the pain. I still cry at times, but then I look at little Sugar, and a smile comes over my face. She needs me now, and I am gonna be the best Mama, she will be the apple of my eye, she already is !! I look forward to talking to fellow dog lovers all over the world, and I am so glad I found this forum !!! I enjoy people, as well as dogs, lol !!! Take Care All !!!

Thank you for responding to my entry. It was very hard loosing this certain pet because of the way it happened. We live in the mountains of Kentucky, and I let him out one morning to potty. Unknown to me that there was a cyote or something lurking in the mountain. I know that's what happened to my little one. I heard him yelp, and flew outside, so did my husband, and he was no where to be found. Haven't seen him since. No sign of anything either. I was sick, and still am when I think about it. If I had just not let him out alone. He was so little. I should have protected him better. I blame myself everyday. He loved me so much, and I let him down. :( I know the pain will fade, but it hurts so much !!!!! Thank you for the concern !

No, can't put fences up, cause we rent the house and property we live in. I don't think it would do any good anyway, cause those critters are persistant when they are hunting. I am feeling a little better everyday, thanks to little Sugar. She's a joy to have. I took her outside in the yard yesterday for the first time, with me right beside her of course, and she entered a new world, lol. Should have seen her !! Jumping and playing like a rabbit !!! LoL.............. Those little short legs of hers can't carry her very fast, but she sure tries !! She's only 8 wks old !! And a sweetheart. Doing really good with house training so far too. I won't hold my breath though. LOL !! Thanks for writing, I enjoy talking to you. Oh yeah, the administrator wrote me, and he, or she, is gonna check into downloading something on this forum so we can chat live. We'll see what happens there. Catcha later !!

Good morning guys!
I am new to the forum to and very excited! I work swing shift and it can be lonely!
I was excited to see a fellow KYian out there! I am sorry to hear about your little dog, but congrats on the new one! It is tough. I had my male Rhodesian Ridgeback "Bruno" from when he was 6 months old, I just lost him 11/9/2006 @ the ripe old age of 12. I got him just before my divorce, and fondly remember the good old days when it was just him and me. He was 5 when I married my current husband. He was a very special, loyal, noble beast and @ 115 pounds was a gentle giant unless you messed with me or his yard or my little baby niece, he was the best dog I have ever had the pleasure of sharing my life with. I still cry when I come around the corner and he's not there, but I know how lucky I am that he didn't suffer and was out chasing turkey and deer right up to the day he died. He had a tumor in his stomach, unable to operate because when he was 9 and had his teeth cleaned he almost didn't make it due to a reaction with the anesthesia...so we knew we were on borrowed time...one night he went into seizures and collapsed and within the hour he was gone...my husband said to me "If I was only allowed one dog in a life time, it would have been Bruno. Even my parents bawled for days...him and "grumpa" used to go on rides together and stop to get corn dogs.
Anyway, I have quite the crew and everytime I thought we would be able to adopt another RR, here came another stray. Then one day this little Black and Tan Coonhound showed up, was the people down the roads...but they let him run loose during the day, and chained him under the trees at night:mad:...so I had a talk with them and he is now mine.....I swear I look into those hound dog eyes and hear that hound bellar...it's a bit squeeky and tiny now because he is only 8 weeks old...but I swear the soul I see inside there is Bruno's....okay, I hope that's not wierd and yall understand...but sure takes me back...he is hysterical and sooooo hound dog!
Sorry to ramble...great to talk dogs and be understood!:o
Will talk at ya later!
Take care

Ahhhhhhhhh Tammy, you aren't rambling, not at all. You sound just like me, and I would enjoy very much talking to you. You sound like your heart is just as big as mine when it comes to the love you have for your dogs. I swear I think they know and feel what we are thinking and feeling. I have had many dogs in my life, and each one of them still has a special place in my heart. My new little one has definitely captured my heart. You can see her pic in the puppy photo gallery. Her name is Sugar. She's bigger now, and I need to put some new pics of her in there. I can rememeber your name easily, cause my sisters name is Tammy. Dogs can be such company and comfort !!! My new hubby never was a big dog lover, but since he's met me, I think he realized he better become one, lol !! And, he really has changed his attitude since we have our new little one, Sugar !! He just loves her, of course, she's awfully easy to fall in love with, all 4lbs of her, lol !!! I still miss my little Rudy, but he'll always be in my heart, in his special little place. I can always go there in my heart and visit him !! Plz write again soon !! I would enjoy talking to you more ! Bye and thanks for responding to my thread !!!! ...................... Hi there!
I loved your reply, great to be understood...most of my friends think I am a little nuts because of my crew and not having human children...never would have time for my human children now...lol...Ya know, it's amazing how time flys after you lose that special friend, but it's also amazing what comes back into your life. I posted a message about my crew in intros...but will do a brief (I will try to be short..lol...) recap.
Sasha---12 yr old, 3 legged, RR..unstoppable and a hoot at all times! A true inspiration, when I think I just can't get through the day (I have Rheumatoid Arth and some days are difficult) she reminds that all things are possible...I have yet to find a child proof cabinet lock that is Sasha proof..lol..
Moose---1.5 yr old Black Lab, we found him wandering the highway with badly embedded collar...Dr Glass cleaned him up and he healed wonderful...still hurts me to see his scars....took 1 yr until he chilled out...we were just about to give him up to a lab rescue and deem him out of control and unmanageable...90 lbs of chewing/bitting/dominating...worked with lots of control exercises, got him a huge kennel...and finally got the exercise routine down...one day the lightbulb went off.....he was normal...the change is amazing, no one believes hes the same dog...a pure treasure and mamas boy...he manages to get up in my lap, all 90 lbs of him, balance and not hurt me....no more jumping, bitting, chewing (only on toys) or knocking anyone down, in fact when he is approached he automatically sits..
Chloe--8 month old shepherd/cattle dog mix...amazing smile! Dr Glass found a bullet (not bb) in her when he spayed her...tense times, but he got it and she pulled through. She is know as the Swamp Thing, she has daily baths and brushings because she lives in our pond....you can smell her 1 mile away...she is a wonderful free spirit. I found her in the middle of nowhere in the snow and cold...I opened the car door and she jumped right in, gave me a ton of kisses and then snuggled down in my lap.
Silo--the Black and Tan Coonhound, 8-10 weeks old---constant fun and love, though he is timid and shy at times, but he is coming around. The cutes bellar...loves Moose and doesn't seem to know Moose outweighs him by over 70 lbs and they play very nicely together! He loves the kiddie pool, cleans all the bugs and toys out of it..strange, he can't stand the floating toys to be in the pool, or bugs....
We also have 3 rescue cats, the kitten Moose loves to retrieve and bring to me...he always looks like a drowned rat..:o, we also have 2 rescued cockatiels...
I love it, even all the time and work involved, the rewards out weigh it all! We too do not have fence, yet. A few dog runs and tieouts...this weekend we are starting to fence 1/2 acre in around the polebarn, that way we can put dog door in polebarn walkout door, they will have lots of trees, shelter, their pool and all their toys. We are using 4X4 sheep/goat fence and running a hot wire around the bottom (Chloe is an escape artiist!) Not too bad in price...lots of work, but a dream for me and the kids. We will still take lots of walks, but I won't have to take 3 at a time on the leash. Of course they will still have inside time during the day, and they will still sleep us at night, but they need the room to romp and run....I am very excited...
Sorry...rambled again! Nice to meet you, talk more later and have a great day! I find most of my kids abandoned, I think it's because I do swings as the on call nurse with local hospice, so I spend alot of time in the middle of nowhere at crazy hours...it's my saftey bonuses...lol

:) Hi again Tammy. Sorry it took me so long to get back to you, but you know how the week-ends can be.
It sounds like you have a wonderful family of four legged children. You are so much like me. I only have one child, the kind that have only 2 legs, lol, and the Lord knew what he was doing when he only gave me one. She's a joy, but dogs are much easier to raise. No back talk, and you can keep them close, and they never leave home. Or at least, not usually !! LoL !!
What you do with your dogs is wonderful in my opionion. I wish there were more people in this world like you that would rescue dogs and other animals. I use to live next door to a lady that had an animal shelter in her back yard. The only thing was that she had no help with it, and now I think she had to let it go. I was working at the time, and couldn't help her out. I would love to do something for animals like that, but now, here where I live, I don't have the room, or the money. It takes some overhead to do it right. Limited money here right now. If I had it my way, I would have every stray that came along. My hubby just shakes his head, and grins... He understands though. I use to have Grey Timberwolves when I lived in Arkansas. They are a handful !! Beautiful animals though. Smart !! I had a little pocket Pom, another weiner dog, an Italian Greyhound that I rescued. Couple of Chows, about 2 cats, birds, fish, you name it, I think I have had it at one time or another. I just can't see my life without animals in it. What in the world would I do without a dog at my side.......... I understand them, and they understand me. I can talk to them !! I know you know what I mean !!
Now, my little Sugar is the joy of my life. She has helped me so much get over the loss of my other little dog. My husband got her for me the day after I lost my other little baby, because he was so worried about me. I cryed til I was sick. Literally, sick !!! But, now my heart is full again !! I still have a tear come to my eye when I think about all the little things my little Rudy did everyday, but, he is in a good place now, plenty to eat, lots of sleep, and playing all day long, I know !!!!! Crying now !!!!!! Sorry, just loved him so much !!
Well, now your ear is off, and your eyes have popped out of your head from reading so much, lol. I'll let you go for now, but look forward to getting more messages from you. I am so glad we met ! You and your babies have a wonderful day, and see ya later !! PS.... I am a retired nurse too ! I haven't worked in over a year now. Just noticed you said you were a nurse with hospice. I know with that kind of work, your animals give you a wonderful release from all the stress !! Take Care !!!!!

So good to hear from you Rhonda,
I completely understand being busy, never fear that I won't! We have so much in common, it just makes me smile! I too am a sucker for a stray! My husband took awhile to get used to it too. When we first met he had just lost his big ole Shepherd...Manhattan, he had had him for 10 yrs...so he was very gun shy and insisted no more because of the pain of letting them go. He had Digger, an Australian Shepherd, aptly named for his profession (aka...he was a Houdini too) and he had left him with his mom in N AZ because he wanted to get some distance in case something happened to Digger (didn't want to hurt the way he did after Manhattan again)...After a few months with me and Bruno...we went and got Digger, and several months later adopted Sasha as I saw her on the internet and read her long sad story...bounced around and finally got hit and lost her L front leg...What a crew they were...very fun, loved to corner the APS (power co in AZ) man, even treed him once, while the guy was hanging from the tree lecturing me I pointed out the HUGE Dog door and asked what he thought would come out it...a Poodle??? Next week I spotted the guy in his truck with binoculars to read the meter...lol The on day Dave found "Fred and Ethel" the cockatiels in a home with 15 other birds in a very small cage and constantly covered...so he drug them home, that was 8 yrs ago...then 2 yrs ago we bought the truck with the shell, packed up the dogs and the birds and came to KY...love it here, open country, beautiful views, and fabulous people! Sadly, we lost Digger 9/07 to old age in his sleep he was 12 yrs old, then 2 months later we lost Bruno...very hard on Dave, we both still cry...but within 2 months we had Chloe and then Silo...oh yeah, the 2 cats "Lewis and Clark" followed us home the 2nd month we were here, we took a walk in the woods and here were these 2 tiny kittens...what were we to do?? Then about 1 yr later, waiting to turn L on forest Ave and here on the curb was this little tiny pathetic kitten, so we grabbed him, he spent 2 weeks with Dr Glass...infested with every bug known to man..then he came home with us, "Forest" was the only name we could think of...all 3 males and they get along great...You are absolutely right, if not for my babies I would just go crazy...every night we spend at least 1-2 hours hanging out, just to make my day end on a good note, even if it means I am up until 4-5 am...I couldn't live without them, emotionally or physically...I always say, no matter what shape they were in, they saved me, not me them....okay, now your eyes are bugged out!! Take care and can't wait to hear from ya! Have a good one! Tammy:D:)
