When we first got her she was 8 weeks old. She was doing GREAT! We didn't have any accidents at all. Then the snow came. We got her in Jan. but didn't get anysnow until late Feb. She's a yorkie and just now weighs 5 pounds so, every time I took her outside she either a) refuse to leave the porch because the snow was taller than her. or b) just stand there and freeze and shiver because she was so little and it was freezing outside. So began the accidents, and a lot of them. For about two months she wouldn't go outside at all! I crated her from the time I bought her.. didn't work. I gave her treats and encouragement...not working! I have two puppy books and I've done everything they say and it's not working. Now she will go outside AND inside. I think we've made some progress, I mean atleast she's going outside half the time. I need to get this under check before I go off to school this September! HELP PLEASE
I've tried the stubborness. I would stand outside with her for 45 minutes and she wouldn't go. We'd be two feet in the door and she's pee or poop. I even tried making a 'potty word'...a word to she'll connect with going to the bathroom.

Just a few days ago I washed all the carpets in my house to get the pet smell out of the carpets so she wouldn't smell herself in the carpets and therefore we'd have a fresh start. I just spotted her going infront of the bathroom door...where she always went!

I was told not to put their nose in it and spank them because it just makes them scared to go infront of you. I don't want that nor need it but I am out of ideas!

My 2 dogs are inside dogs, so we have trained them to go to the toilet on the newspaper. I did this by covering a large area with paper and slowly reducing this to just one sheet. If I caught them doing it I rewarded them, and through persistence it has worked. When we let them outside to go to the toilet we use a simple command. Go outside and say a word, repeating it over and over (we used hurry ups) and when they went we rewarded them and got all excited. My dogs have now learnt that hurry ups means go to the toilet and often they go, if they need to, when we say the command, you need to remember to reward them so that they think that it is a good thing to do.
