I just love this show. I even got my husband and daughter watching it with me. I don't have a lot of problems with my dog, but the little ideas she has are actually very effective. I don't get National Geographic, so I can't watch "The Dog Whisperer." If you have seen both, which is better, why?

I like Its Me or the Dog better because Victoria is so gentle with her techniques and they always work. She seems to accept dogs as family members.

Cesar Milan, the Dog Whisperer, is about asserting your dominance and making the dog inferior - I actually tried some of his techniques with my aggressive terrier - and I got bit twice! Victoria's method of turning your back on behavior you don't like has worked great in my house - because my dogs love attention more than anything!

I don't know if I have National Geographic... so I can't compare...
but
National Geographic magazine is excellent, so any show they'd have would be excellent.

It's Me or the Dog is excellent, but it's not the only show of that type. Another is the monks who train recalcitrant dogs. Another comes from Britain and is a lady who retrains dogs who are problems. I find all these shows very good and very entertaining.

I haven't seen both, but I've seen It's The Dog Or Me and I love that show.
My dogs are well behaved already, but as you said she comes up with all kinds of great ideas for improving things. And there's always room for improvement.

I have seen a couple of episodes of each show. Both trainers are good but some of the things each does I don't really agree with. The woman is so harsh with the dog owners. That kind of turns me off. I saw the show where there was a killer pomeranian. That dog was vicious!! Sje turned him around. The son thought it was cool to teach the dog to be so mean. She retrained the son well. I think I like the Dog Whisperer a little better, but I enjoy watching both shows on occasion. I like the show with the monk training the dogs too. Now I like his style better than the other 2 shows. I think the name of that show is Divine Canine.

The basic difference is that "It's Me or the Dog" uses positive training methods, and "The Dog Whisperer" uses a corrective training method by using a choke or prong collar to train the dog. Both methods are effective, but I prefer positive methods because the build a better relationship with the dog.

"It's Me or the Dog" is the better show. There's real training on that show. So you are getting the better of the two. All the best;^)

I watch both of these shows, and also, Divine Canine with the Monks of New Skete. Victoria has some very good techniques, and her issues are more for dogs that just need to be trainer. Cesar Millan, the dog whisperer, deals more with dogs that actually have issues. Both are great shows, but I would recommend to anyone to try Victoria's techniques first. The reason being is the hers are not as aggressive. Cesar uses the "touch" a lot and will dominate the dog. If you are not a dominate person, or do the "touch" wrong, you can actually take a real chance of being biten your self, or worse.
