Many of the Labrador Retriever breeders listed on this site refer to the English Type Labrador Retriever. What is the "English Type" and is it the same as an "Upland Lab?"

Anybody know?

Thanks for the question, JessMaster. The "American" type Lab is longer, taller and lankier, while the "English" type Lab is more compact and stocky, with heavier bones. Many Lab lovers categorize the breed this way, but the AKC does not recognize the Lab as having two different types.

Actually you will hear many breeders believe there is now 3 recognizable styles of Labradors in the USA. The field type, the American type and the English style, with the American being a more middle of the road type.
