there isnt a "best" breed for a show...if u re looking for a show dog...make sure its pure bread and gets training at an early stage...i have 2 purebread chow chows at home...they have a bad reputation as a breed but i assure you they are the best thing ever(ive already had alot of dogs in the past and these are the greatest) and theyre very god looking...i am always asked to put them in a show but i dt want to...check them out, and chows have won show awards...

Best breed? There is no BEST BREED....it's more of a best breed for you thing. Do you like grooming? Are you willing to spend 3 hours to groom? Hardly any grooming at all? What about training? Different dogs learn at different paces, different ways, etc...and some breeds need A LOT of socialization before showing, like the GSD, rottweiler, doberman, etc...

No, I do not reccommend the Chow Chow for a first time exhibitor...sure they're pretty dogs, but you HAVE to know you're getting an even temperamented one...
AND that's a lot of grooming.
so, again, I don't recommend this breed.

The best dog is the breed that you love and adore AND can live with. :P You'll spend a lot more days losing than winning unless you're very, very lucky, so you should at least share it with a dog you really love.
If you really love chows and they suit your lifestyle, go for it- but find a VERY reputable breeder to mentor you FIRST- and consider a smooth. The grooming on the roughs is going to be tougher for a novice to get the hang of.

A Shih Tzu is the best breed to bet for me. It's a highly trainable breed and low maintenance too. To choose from other dog breeds, check Dog Breeds for Training (http://www.dogobedienceadvice.com/dog-breeds.php).

Show dogs can be dumb as a stick and still show well. The best dog is one that best represents the breed. It can be the best dog in the world, but if it isn't physically representative of the breed standard, it won't do well in the show ring. If you are talking about obedience competitions or field trials, then it needs to be a dog with smarts. Golden retreivers excell at obedience training. Winning in the show ring is gonna probably cost you. You'll have to be willing to pay a good price for a good pedagree and there are no guarantees there either. My advice, get the breed of dog you are compatable with and have fun with it.
