home when in 'trouble' how to fix this? My dog is extensively trained but family members(still uncooperative) have trained the dog to go in the house rather than come to them. You see when the dog is in the fenced yard she is usually asked to come inside the house, this results in her hesitating and then complying when she is scolded from afar. This has effectively extinguished the training I have given the dog to come to the person when called, as she will only do it when a playful voice is used if she thinks she is in trouble its off to home she goes!
This became apparent when I was playing with her in the park when I called her in a stern voice. She started to trot home! This behavior shocked me and I yelled my guts out, which made her more determined. I then had to charge her down and made a fingertip diving tackle on concrete just(and I mean JUST) before she got on the road. It was like a bad movie there were cars coming just in time to hit her and I realized I HAD to catch her. We were both almost run over.
