What should I do if my puppy has looks like he is getting diarrhea (soft stool)?

I have a 9.5 week chihuahua that I adopted last week from a pet shelter fair. The woman told me to feed him NutroMax for puppies and I have been doing that since I've got him. Yester he woke up with what it looks like to be diahhrea. I was told to take him off his dog food and give him a bit of rice and make him drink pedialite. He has been pretty tired today and now wont drink the pedialite. What should I do? Should I switch him back to water? Thank you for all your help.

I deffinatly dont think you should have taken away his water... So give that back to him and the rice is perfect but dont take him off his food, instead mix the boiled rice into his food say 50% pup food and 50% rice. He might be tired from not havin enough nutrients in his diet or perhaps just pains in his tummy. Try putting the water back and mixing the pup food with rice. He should get back to his usual self fairly quickly. Good Luck

Rice and a small amount of cooked chicken. This is what the vet ordered for my dog with similar situation.

get him checked at the vets...sometimes there are symptoms we do not notice but also include diarehia...i lost a dog that way...i thought it was normal stomach ache and when i finally took her to the vets it was too late, a 3 month old pup!!!!!!!
switch back to water ASAP and get her checked,just in case

Time to go to the vet. If he is still eating and drinking fine, then take a fecal sample to the vet and have them run it to check for parasites.
When was the last time he was dewormed?
