I am working on housetraining my dog. She is 6 months old and we have had a few accidents, which I blame on me not the dog. When she is indoors she is either in her crate or I have her on a leash that I attach to my belt loop so that I could get stuff done and know where she is at and what she is doing. Is having her on a leash attached to me OK? Is that teaching her to be my shadow? and is that ok? When I or my husband sit down to watch TV we let her play in the living room and kitchen freely as long as we know where she is at.

the most important thing is not to let her feel isolated...and eventually ure gonna hve to trust around ur home...i dt think u should leave her in her crate or tied to you all the time...let her roam free and if she behaves badly, show her who's boss and teach her the right thing...the only way they can learn is through trial and error and any mistake she might not be making now(coz ure always next to her) will come out later...better suffer a little now while shes still young than suffer tons more when shes older...
