i would use the dog to hunt small game(rabbits,squirrel,pheasant... even turkey in the fall season) i know that beagles are good rabbit dogs, but not much else. i want something that will point, flush, and follow the trail of blood/feathers/fur as well as the trail of scent. any ideas?

I have never even heard of dogs hunting turkey, or even if its legal. If it were me, I would go with two breeds....for small game such as rabbits such, I would go with a Jack Russel Terrier....very smart, energetic, but they are also a little hyper and need lot of exercise and constant trainning, but that is with any hunging dog. For birds, especially upland game such as pheasant and quail, I hunt with brittanys. They are very good dogs, smart and easy to train. I prefer them over labs because of their size...they are smaller, 30lbs or so-vs- 70.

I agree with the first guy. Beagles have been known to go after just about any animal, including deer. Training is tough with beagles, but they can be taught everything you want. They are great hunting dogs, and even better hunting buddies.

well with any hunting dog that you get you really need alot of room, time and dedication with that said your best bet is a springer spaniel because of their natural instinct to hunt and track but there very unpredictable and sometimes wont hold a point. a weimaraner on the other hand is great the hold a point nicely and all of the above and more but they are very hyper and if you cant give them the attention they demand then dnt get one because they stick to you like glue..Good hunting
