is my cat a threat?

i have a yellow lab puppy and a 20-pound cat. the cat doesn't like the puppy very much, and i'm afraid he'll try to harm the puppy when i'm away from home. is this something i should be worried about? i'm especially concerned because once my dog grows up he'll weigh 80 or 90 pounds, an i don't want him to harbor any resentment against the cat. it'd be best if they could just get along.

I don't think the dog will harbor resentment per say, but they might not be pals

It's really funny and I don't know exactly what triggers this in certain animals.... I've had cats and dogs all my life and sometimes they became best friends. Other times they were arch enemies, and in these cases the most progress we ever made was when we reached the point where the cat could (most of the time) slip out of a room without being chased by the dog (it was a pit / lab mix we adopted from the SPCA--great dog, by the way... he still lives with my mom today).
