Hello all,

I do not have a dog yet, I am trying to decide on the best fit for my kids (ages 11 and 13) They keep begging for a dog and I told them until they are able to take better care of their rooms and be more resposible that I would not get them one. It is a big resposibility to have a dog and the dog needs attention. Any suggestions on breeds that are kid friendly?:o

A first time future owner, with kids, 11 and 13. Hmmm, a Golden Retriever would be nice if you like affectionate, gentle, but energetic dogs. These are great with kids and are generally easy as a first breed.

personally,
i have had all types of dogs throughout my life time from afghans to pitbulls. The gentlest though that i have found with kids is the German shepherd. They grow up with the child and become extremely protective and no matter how hard the child may pull on its fur etc the dog will not retaliate with teeth, tongue maybe but not teeth
