We just adopted a 1.5 year old spayed yellow lab from the Humane Society and brought her home last night. I guess we really don't know all that much about this breed but she was extremely hyper and just chewed, chewed, chewed all night.

Our thoughts on this is that she is new to our household and is probably a little over-excited. We're sure hoping that within a few days or a week, she will calm down and fall into our routine. She doesn't seem to listen to us at all. She jumps on counters and furniture. She pulls excessively on the leash during walks. We are committed to consistently training her in areas that need work and we've already begun but she doesn't seem to "get it". And, again, we don't really know all that much about this breed. Are they generally hyper? Are they fast learners? Are they easily trainable? Do they make good family pets? Did we make a huge mistake here? PLEASE HELP!

You have to make your selfs pack leader, to show the dog you are the leaders and not her, theres many ways I can think of you can try. Make her work for everything, nothing is free given to her, she must at least sit to get food or before each throw before the fetch comaned, once she sees you as pack leader she will be more good and listen alot more, plus its good to teach her name to her, that will help too, theres alot of different ways then what I named that you can do. Why did you pick an retriever for? If you would like to hear more on what to do/etc just write me or ask. Where is that shelter at?
