In about three weeks I will be getting the first puppy that will be my own. It is a Siberian Husky, and I've been doing extensive reading (purchased a number of books on Amazon), but was wondering if anyone here in the forums has any extra advice for me? I want to make sure this puppy gets the best upbringing possible.

Kris I have bred and raised andtrainned Sibrerians for over 35 years and Know them to be one of the most different breeds you can own. While I have always used them as sled dogs and sporting dogs ,those getting pups from me for pets have always loved them as companion dogs. They are not a dog that you can ever let run free and they can be very difficult to obedience train. That being said they are usually very sweet and good with other dogs .They are like no other breed and are one of the most beautiful I think. Its kind of like owning a live fur coat. When I look at mine and feel their beautiful winter fur coats they are just strickingly beautiful I do not think people who do not keep their dogs in extreme cold weather ever really see how they can look when in winter prime coat like we do in Alaska.Don't expect them to be different than what they are , and you should do well with them.Sue brown

Yes, make sure that you have them fenced in really really well, because they WILL get out. I used to breed them when I lived with my mother. They do prey on smaller animals such as cats, squirrels, birds, you know, anything small. They get along great with other dogs and they aren't that hard to train. (Well ours wasn't). They are very beautiful and love to play! Although some males may be very dominant. As we had one that was, but only towards the other dogs. I think they are a good dog, as long as you can keep them in your yard = ).
