total newbie!

hi folks! aj here... i'm a single gal in my 20's looking to get her first dog and just have some questions for you dog lovers and knowers out there. i'm currently researching various breeds and am drawn to rhodesian ridgebacks, weimaraners, gsp's and boxers... kind of a random collection of dogs, but what can i say.

anyway, i'm currently in an apartment but am house shopping, i'm single, i'm very active (marathon, triathlon, hiking... love to be outdoors) and want to get a dog that fits that lifestyle and what not.

any guidance you may have would be greatly appreciated!

all of those dogs fit your active lifestyle really well. just because of personal bias, i would say either a weimaraner or rhodesian ridgeback. :)

ooh, thanks for the feedback. i think i'm pretty set on the ridgeback, i've found a breeder not too far from here i'm meeting with soon!

It's really just a personal thing but unless you are proposing to work them I'd suggest staying away from weims and GSPs. That's only because I think that working dogs should be worked though and not kept only as pets.

I'd go for the ridgeback, but please not until you have a place large enough for a dog this size.

My family and I are also athletic...wrestlers and cross country runners...we got an American Staffordshire Terrier...he's great and does really well with children and adults...good luch with your search...

We got an American Staffordshire Terrier...what a smart, friendly and great companion for my family and me...he was house-broken in his first week; picked up on tricks very quickly...excellent watchdog, and great with other kids, adults and pets in our neighborhood...and he is a handsome-looking, brindle colored, nine month old...and still growing at 68 pounds.: eek:
