I hope that this site will be a good experience for me. I have been breeding horse for longer then I can remember and started breeding dogs about 3 years ago very successfuly. However I still have lots of questions. I have found that in the horse world people are very generous and helpful with others breeding programs. The dog world however I have found is totally different. I would like to talk to people that are willing to honestly help.

There is not so much of a problem with overpopulation with horses. This is why most knowledgable dog lovers don't usually support people breeding dogs without either already knowing how to or keeping in touch with a mentor who teaches them how to. I am one of them, but if you are willing to learn, you're a step ahead of most people breeding currently. What breed do you work with? It's not usually a good sign if a breeder does not introduce their dogs along with themselves. Just me being a bit cynical...

I don't understand??? If you are wanting to know the breed of my dogs - they are Bernese Mountain Dogs. I researched the breed & breeders for over 3 years before I bought my female. When she was 1.5 years old I bought my male. So it was a long process as I wanted good quality dogs from respectable people. However I found people in other countries to be more helpful, generous with their knowledge and trustworthy then the people I tried to work with within the States. After I got my puppies I tried to join several Berner clubs but they were nasty to me because I bought outside of the U.S. Which is exactly why I bought outside the country.

I thought you were just referring to the difference between horse breeders and dog breeders, not between foreign breeders and American breeders. I don't do any work with Bernese Moutain Dogs, so I really don't know anything about their clubs. I would think that it's a good thing to import dogs. They aren't the most popular breed over here, there can't be all too big of a gene pool. I do know that that sometimes people in the breed clubs can act superior. I don't think I can help you with that. I'd just suggest you see if you can find a friendly breeder who has already learned how to coexist with the club's other members. It's always good to know someone who already knows their way around.
The reason I asked what sort of dogs you worked with was because many reputable breeders who introduce themselves on forums (or even in person) will introduce their dogs also, or at least mention their breeds. It really doesn't mean anything in this case. I'd really like to see pictures though, Berners are so stunning!

Hey - you have been very nice - I appreciate that. I love my dogs and love to show them off! I'm just a little leary. I would love to send you some pics - I can't seem to figure it out how to do that on this site. What breed of dogs do you have? I would love to see pictures.

I don't have a dog right now, I'm really not in the position to own one. I'm currently living with people who don't know much about dogs and aren't really willing to learn. I volunteer at the humane society, so I work with 24 dogs of different breeds. I spend most of my time with the pit bull crosses that no one else really works with. I am probably going to get an APBT from rescue once I have a house of my own.
I love the sheer fluffyness of Berners. Yours look wonderful! They're right at home in the snow, aren't they?

After a little research I found a site you might check out there is even some contact information available. Go to http://berner.home.att.net/ That is the homepage for Starkenhund Bernese Mountain Dogs. Perhaps they can also be of some assistance to you. They are beeders of the Bernese and also have a rescue organization for Bernese Mountain Dogs. Good Luck I'm sure your dogs will have many, many beautiful pups. :)
