We have a bullmastiff, in an apartment, Which is going good, we take her to the doggy park, and walks, and ect... the question is, she is crate trained. When she was a puppy, and we left her for work, we put the crate and her in the kitchen, 10 by 6 ft, (apartment you know) and baby gated it.
she is now 7 mths old We still do it, when she was younger, we didn't think she could hold it for that long, so that was why we did it that way. Now, she can hold it, and no accidents, and pretty much stays in her crate, with the door open. but locked in kitchen. If we are only going to be gone for 3/4 hours we just crate her. But, if we leave her in the apartment for an hour excess to living rm only, she still won't hold it, yet she can for 8 if she is locked in kitchen, how do we cross over, so we don't have to lock her up all the time. When we are at home, she will go to the door, and look at us. and we take her out. No accidents. But, one hour alone and she goes to the door and pees.

move the crate to the "problem" room and the dog will learn that room is part of its den

best of luck
