I feed Innova Evo for the time being. I used to feed a RAW diet (chicken wings, turkey necks, beef hearts, ground beef/turkey, ground veggies, etc...)and I am seriously considering getting back into.

What about you?

Last dog (Newfire/Shep)...lamb and rice as a fussy eater...IAMS for 17 years.

Now (Anatolian/Pyrenees)....Smart Puppy for 2 years.....now on IAMS small chunks...they prefer it to large chunks...I have no idea why.

Vets all differ in opinions....overall consensus is as long as quality food. Each breed has different needs taking into account their activity levels.

I give meat scrapes...small amounts....and ham bones and cow leg bones (soup bones)....1 each week.

I have been feeding my dog, Scout, an (American Staffordshire Terrier), for one year. That is what our breeder recommended. Scout comes from an AKC line of five generations of champion showdogs...it seems to agree with his system well.

Thanks,

Rick

I prepare all food for our boxers. nothing but all natural ingredients. seems as tho all pet foods are not good/we have lost our precious babes because of the added "ickies" found in all pet foods. I will never go back to commercial dog foods...after finding out they all (yes all) grind up road kill, etc. plus animals that have been euthanized ... and the drugs used to do just that does NOT break down in the processing!!!

I will not feed my furbabies anything I would not personally eat!

How in the world do you all afford to feed your dogs all this food. I know what they are saying about the store bought dog food, but, my vet says a good quality dog food is what they need. Is he wrong? My little one is about 3 months old now, and is as healthy as can be. Little Dachshund, and has plenty of energy, and a beautiful coat. I feed her purina puppy chow 3 times a day.

I saw your thread and that seems to be a lot of food for a puppy. I have an Amstaff Terrier (70 plus pounds) @ 14 months. I feed him twice a day...about four cups total; two in the morning, and two in the evening. He started with just over a cup as a puppy. Good luck...beautiful dog.

This is to the kinderwood entry....Hi, so you feed your dogs there a bought dog food? All the stuff I read and hear on tv has me scared. I feed my little puppy Purina Puppy Chow, she is about 3 months old now, and I give her about a fourth of a cup 3 times a day. She is a good weight, and as healthy as can be as far as I can see. I give her nothing from the table, nothing at all. I was giving her little dog snacks every once in a while, but I am a little afraid to even do that. Am I just too over protective with her. Hope you reply, thanks.

What a pityblueboys, yoghurt is so good for them. I guess the cheese is more of a treat. Would soy yoghurt be OK...then again I hate soy as it has a funny taste. The dogs may feel the same way.LOL. May I also comment on your beautiful dogs. They are very rare.

I only give her a fourth of a cup 3 times a day, of puppy chow. She seems to be doing well on it. Do you think that's too much?

blueboys
08-23-2007, 11:30 AM
i dont see it being to much if you babe is happy and putting on the right amount of weight if you think its to much yourself cut it down by just giving 2 meals a day one morning one night mt boys food is left down for them as they never eat it all in one go

Sorry I haven't gotten back to this. I think what you're doing sounds fine if your pup looks healthy- neither overweight or underweight. I'd keep her on that plan for a few more months, adjusting the amount if you see a change in her. At 6 months old, drop her down to 2 feedings a day. I don't see anything wrong with giving dog snacks as long as you watch her weight- maybe cutting back on her food if you see her starting to gain too much. For my dogs, snacks don't matter much as they burn them off- but they are Labs and they work hard. Good luck with your little pupper!

Hi guys, I know, late with my input as uaual! lol..swing shift!

Well, let me tell ya, with my crew it's an art! LOL.

The pups get Purina puppy chow...Silo @ 3 mnths gets 1 8oz cup in am and pm....also get a midnight snack of 2 small milkbones....Chloe @ 8 months gets the same, but she is not overwt...even checked with vet, she does much more running and chasing than Silo. I used to give Silo an extra half cup, but he started to look very chunky! He weighed in last week @ 35 lbs, so he gained 15 in a month, Dr Glass said he was fine.

Now Sasha, the 12 yr old RR, she gets 1/2 cup dog food with a full cup of cooked frozen green beans twice a day. She tends to blimp up r/t her missing L front leg. She is a raider!!!!!!! She has eaten whole bags of uncooked pasta...wrappers and all..she will literally eat anything not nailed down, a RR for ya...all food is under lock and key now! She will also try to stare all others down and knock them out of the way of their food!!!!

Moose, the 95 pound lab mix gets 1 and 1/2 cup twice a day and 2 large milkbones at night. Vet says he is fine, though you can't see his ribs, he says they are easy to feel...whatever that means!

Cowboy, Chloes brother gets 1.5 cups 2 times a day and 2 sm milkbones at night...he is the skittish one, still working on him after 6 months...still have to tranq him every now and then to flea, tick, and bathe him...also get him brushed out....he wont' come in and takes of right after you pet him...so he is constantly on the run and out in the heat and cold.

Feeding time...pretty mellow actually...though I do have to referee...the pup, Silo the Coonhound is hysterical! Once he see's you go for the containers he runs from the door to his kennel and barks and bellars the ENTIRE time...it really is a crack up, then he races ahead and jumps in his kennel and sits so pretty, bellaring and tapping his front paw up and down on the kennel floor...like right here, here I am, food here...now. He gets his first...after I set his down and turn around, everyone else is lined up in the correct order...Sasha, Chloe, Moose...then outside to Cowboy. Every once in a great while a scuffle breaks out...I just do my Ceasar Milan noise and everyone races back to their bowls, empty or not, and stands at attention...

Probably the #1 question I am asked when people find out I have 5 dogs is how I keep them from fighting especially at dinner time...no problems, just make the noise and snap the fingers....it's amazing but it works!

Have a good one guys!
Tammy:D

My dogs are fed raw meat. Chicken frames, necks, turkey necks, lamb ribs, beef ribs, entire chickens, rabbits, brains, hearts, liver. Both are very fit and healthy, have immaculate white teeth, nice coats. I sometimes feed pasta and sardines or tuna and porridge made with goats milk.

Ok, there is bacteria everywhere. Dogs have an amazing immunity system specifically designed to eat all manner of bacteria. And a healthy raw fed fed dog manages those bacteria without a problem.

E-coli, salmonella, etc are found on raw chicken, but those nasties are also found in your fridge, in your sink, on your floor, in your backyard, in your car, on the footpath, down at the park, and perhaps in your bed! Interestingly, the only cases I have heard of dogs dying from e-coli or salmonella, were dogs fed commercial dog foods.

The most important thing is to wash your hands thoroughly and keep your surfaces clean - just as you would when handling your own food - after feeding your dogs, and even after cutting up meat for your own meals. Our digestive systems are not quite as robust as our dogs, so we must protect ourselves.

I have been raw feeding my dogs for several years and none of them have ever had a problem, in fact the only time I have them to the vet is to have thier boosters done!

We feed ours a mixture of homemade and store bought. After all that recall we just did homemade but then slowly started to fade in some dry. For the homemade we just use brown rice and beef with carrotts and peas. And the dry is for the puppy Merrick's puppy and the adults get Natures Variety Lamb or Merrick's New Zealand Lamb. It seems to be working great and they love the mixed textures.

I feed raw meals, and I freefeed Nature's Variety Venison Meal & Millet Medley. I fed strictly raw for a log time but my dogs are working dogs and lose weight too easily to be fed only raw. Freefeeding kibble definatly helps keep weight on them, though they still get too skinny occasionally (especially Solo, that dog will never be anything less than emaciated).

I feed my dog Purnina Pro Plan.

I was at first giving her that no name crap from the store but my vet said that colored food (puppy chow)was bad cause it has alot of fillers in it. I was also told that with cheap food you feed the dog more cause there is less nutrients in it for them hence they eat more and poo more. So I switched, now this must be a thing with my dog but I have switched her at 5 months old from the puppy food to the adult cause she acted like she was starving all the time. Since then I started giving her 3.5 cups a day of the adult but she still eats like there is no tomorrow. I am really thinking of investing in a brake-fast bowl. (shes an indoor dog too)

I feed her now 3 times a day in the morning she gets a cup, afternoon she get half a cup and at night she gets a cup at dinner.

Oh and something else I learned during training is when giving your dog treat for training or whatever it may be watch out for salt in them. Too much can lean twords your dog getting a urinary infection. Who'd of thunk it?

I feed my dogs purina puppy chow. Even when they aren't puppies anymore, I still feed them the puppy chow. My vet informed me that it's full of protein and it's really good for them. As long as they are active and don't get over weight, I will keep feeding it to them. They love it.
