as of yesterday, an australina cattle dog has become part of my family... we are fostering to adopt :) from a local shelter here in the houston, texas outskirts. the shelter said he was turned in by the owners of a storage facility that the puppy showed up at. i didnt know how close to a purebred ACD he was until i started reading breed standards and looking at cattle dog pictures. the only thing his is missing is the large blue patches on his head. anyway, i am taking him to the vet today to see about his age, puppy shots, and general health. i have never had a puppy before b/c my other dog is a "TOTO from the wizard of Oz lookalike mutt" who i adopted at 1 1/2 years. he has become very jealous and growls at the puppy when puppy tries to play with him. BTW the mutt is about 5 years old now. how do i show my older mutt that he has not been replaced but will have to share my affections? also, what can i do to get my new puppy off on a good start?
