Hello everyone,
I'm keen on getting myself an Akita and wanted to question anyone out there who has had some experience with the Akita breed.
I have done every database quiz online and every time I end up matched with an Akita.
I've read many profiles from different sources but find that when it comes to thier behaviour, all reports are conflicting.
Are Akitas trainable or do they have similar personality traits as the Alaskan Malamute?

hi there. im new to this site but i may be able to give u a little advice on akitas.
i am not sure on how malamutes or huskies are but i have recently brought a akita so i may be able to help.
i purchased a japanese akita about 4 weeks ago now and they are the most adorable breeds ever. i brought him when he was 9 weeks old.
they are a very intelligent breed, and my pup reinforces this as he was housebroke when he was 4 weeks old.
i have now taught him the basics such as sit, down, stay, shake hands etc.
so, i would say that they are trainable. :D HOWEVER, if you do not have the time to look after one of these dogs then there may be a bit of trouble. they are dominant dogs thats why you have to assert yourself as leader first. you have to show them from the start that you are the top of the pack. if you can successfully do this, then the akita breed will add happiness to your life.
i would recommend this breed to anyone who has the time to look after a dog.
GOOD LUCK!!!!!!
