i kno that all dogs are loyal, but whats the best dog loyalty wise? my brother has a black lab and i think that thing would take a bullet for him. i'm thinking of getting a dog myself just to have such a davoted friend.

all dogs are loyal. labs and goldens are really well known for loyalty and affection. but when it comes to pure loyalty, i think the german shepherd is your best bet. their wonderful dogs with great personalities. they're protective of their family (you) and territory. they're the kind of dog that really only has one owner and everyone else they just tolerate. of course it varies from dog to dog. i'm going off of what fellow dog owners have told me and my own experience with german shepherds. but really any dog is a loyal dog.

I basically agree, but I feel there is a wide range. Beagles are not especially loyal in my experience. The test involves food. If you can convince a strange dog to get into the car with you by offering a treat, it is not as loyal as you seem to be looking for. I personally love labs, but they will get into a strange car eventually for food and sweet talk. Shepherds won't. My sister had a shepherd mix that was phenomenally loyal and protective of her. Some breeds of shepherd are extreme in this way, for example the Dutch Shepherd. It's a one-person dog, especially when acquired at that critical 2-5 month age, and will unflinchingly take a bullet for its master.

I have had and trained Labs, Setters, Rotts and Anatolian Shepherds.
By far the most loyal is the Tony Shepherd. They're not for everybody, but the one I have is by far the most loyal.
