Hi All,
I live in Maine and I'm looking for a new dog. I'd like a dog I can hunt with (waterfowl), but more importantly one that will be a happy addition to our busy home (four kids, two cats and a Dutch bunny).
I have a fairly big yard and a lakefront camp where the dog will be able to exercise. I plan to house, rather than kennel, the dog since it will primarily be a family pet rather than a hunter.
I'd like something a little different than your average Lab or Golden Retriever. My experience with Chessies hasn't been good. I'm very interested in either flat coated retrievers or curly coated retrievers, but I'm not sure where to look for breeders in my area. If anyone could point me in the direction of a reputable breeder for either breed in northern New England or the Canadian Maritimes I'd appreciate it. Most of the websites I've checked only index US breeders, but I'm actually closer to Canada than I am to NY or CT.
Growing up I had a Husky, a Lab and a Springer Spaniel, so I think I know what I'm getting into. However, it's been several years since I've had a family dog and I'd like to make the right choice for my little clan and the pup, too.
Thanks,
Geoff
