Hi everyone,

My dog gets along great with just about everyone, but for some reason he doesn't like children. He gets really shy/withdrawn and hes even growled a couple times at them. Can you train a dog not to do this or is it instinct?

it definitely depends on your dog's age. if he's still young, you should try to expose him more to children in a controlled and familiar environment on a leash. make him sit and squat down beside him and have the kids pet him and talk to him. he should ease up. if he's older, it may be harder to get him used to them but try anyway. same approach. no matter what, be sure he's only around kids when you're there. no matter what, make sure to comfort him and talk to him nicely. if he gets upset, dont yell at him because then he'll dislike children more. be nice, talk to him calmy and softly. tell him hes a good boy.

Thanks Amie,

It's good to hear that there's something I can do. My dog is only 2 years old - I'm just going to introduce him to some more kids and see if he eases up.
