my beagle

We just adopted a 5 year old beagle. Every time I take him in the yard or for a walk ( I also have a lab mix that goes with us) he manages to find some scent and starts baying. Is there a way to get him to stop or should I just learn to put up with it?

if you are going to have a beagle, yoiu need to learn to live with it, but you can talk to a trainer and see about putting that nose to use on something productive, so that he realizes that not every smell requires him to say so.

I would also make sure you keep him on a long leash incase he picks up a sent. Atleast until you know he has a perfect recall.

Oh, I do have him on a retractable leash. If I don't he takes off like a shot. He is very fast for an overweight beagle. We adopted him and he was so fat. I have him on a diet and lots of exercise.
