hunting training

hey, i have a question for the hunters....it may sound stupid but i've always wondered: does most of your dog's hunting abilities come from instinct or training? my neighbor has a brittany and she doesnt hunt him but i'll see him out in the yard pointing and he's really good at retrieving when they play fetch. is that all there is? does training just enhance and refine instinct? i'm incredibly interested. thanks!

"instinct" is a natural trait, and the best hunting dogs have hunting in there blood which gives them the natural instinct, you either have instinct or you dont.

I'd say that without instinct a dog could be trained to hunt, but it would be more difficult.
