We took our dog to the vet last week because he was having some sort of reaction (swollen eye, ears, etc.) They told us they gave him a shot of Benedryl, and injectible steroids. They decided it was a severe allergic reaction. When we took him home, they told us to feed him canned dog food 2 times a day for 3 days(which they provided) they also told us to give him a pill (the way they explained it was a doggie pepsid) 1 time a day for 5 days. It's been just over a week and his swelling is completely gone, he doesn't have too many coughing fits, but every monring he will start to cough and throw up. Is there anything I can do to help? I've called the vet and they said it wasn't anything to worry about. :( Really? We were told to continue giving him Benedryl until he seems to be ok going without it, so maybe the Benedryl is still working its way out of his system? Any advise?

Hi I have a Jack Russell who has severe allergies from everything to housedust to black ants!! He had all of the same symtoms as your dog,and we finally took him to an allergest..the vet had suggested it--we now give him allergy shots...along with 2 other allergy meds...It was costly but worth it bc the benedryl made him throw up everyday!!!
Adrienne, what allergy meds did they give you? My Jack Russell has the same problem.

Actually he is on 2 different ones-We give him an allergy shot every 10 days-that we do from home. The vet derm. showed us how to give the needles and he is also on Amitriptylline once a day--It really is starting to make a difference!! How about your Jack?

alliksu, I am really sorry about your sick Boxer and throwing up every morning is something to worry about, I don't know what your vet is talking about. Go to a different vet and bring in your boxer and ask them. I think they will tell you the right way to go. :]
Make sure they are reputable though. Good luck and please keep us updated!
