This is NOT a debate. Our new dobie is gonna be getting her ears clipped in a week. I will not even read your reply if it is about the cruelty issue. We've decided to do it and thats that. All I'm asking is for advice on what to expect and any tips you all might have in dealing with freshly trimmed ears for the next couple of weeks.
Thanks

For most people its not a cruelty issue, it's simply that cropping ears and docking tails is an outdated fashion and completely unnecessary to the the animals health.

This website has some pretty good information on things you'll have to watch out for after cropping. http://www.cinemaboxers.com/croppinginfo.htm

wow, what a great page, had lots of great information. Thank you so much!
I really appreciate your impartiality in this matter. We're taking her in to our vet in just a couple of days, so we just want to be ready to do what's nessecary to make the experience the best possible for us and our pup.

Thanks again.

I personally don't like cropping, but I would much rather have people be informed than have them just sit and listen to cruelty banter I'm sure they have heard plenty of.

In Australia it is against the law to crop ears & dock tails, & that is for ALL breeds, even the breeds that have traditionally had there tails docked.
I have Aussie Terriers with full tails, & you can just imagine what a Rottweiler looks like with a full tail.:D Its pretty funny!

sorry josheehy, but my husband's family has had Rotties in their family for many years & I adore the breed, but seeing one with a tail is one of the most funniest things I have ever seen.:D
Sorry but that's just my opinion.:)

in fact he is the more gorgeous for having all his anatomy// I would consider it abnormal to cut off tails and ears,,,only butchers do that dont they..???

Well I happen to be a registerd breeder of Australian Terriers, & up until a couple of years ago, I have always had their tails docked, as this has been a feauture of the breed for nearly aslong as the breed has excisted, These silly new laws my country has adopted have angered & frustrated alot of registrerd breeders here, and alot of dog breeds including my beloved Aussie have a very low profile at the moment because of this reason. So forgive me if I seem a little bit bitter with tail docking laws.
As for your ignorant butcher comment, I won't even justify that with an ans wer, all I can say to you is,I dare you to become a member of my Australian Purebreed dog forum Dogzonline.com.au & throw that same comment out there, I'm sure you will get many interesting replies, & I'm sure there is many breeders on this forum from the USA that will take offence to your butcher comment when they see it, as I know they still allow tail docking.

As for your Rottie, I am sure he is handsome, but its just a pity he has a tail:D
And yes I still do think Rotties look ridiculous with a tail, handsome or not!
And Yes this is MY OPINION, & I have a right to it.
