This News Story Makes Me Happy

Hey all, so I know that everyone has heard about Michael Vick, well here's the silver lining:

I hope the link works because I love when people are shown that pit bulls are not vicious dogs. I hope all these dogs live long happy lives and hopefully forget their terrible past.

Me too. I have a Pit that I took in as an abandoned stray over three years ago...and nearly dead from starvation and dehydration. Didn't really need another dog...I had 10 at the time...but I couldn't have slept nights if I'd turned my back on him. He's a big snugglepup, and an absolute clown. Silly over kids, and the smaller they are, the goofier he gets.

If anything happened to him, I'd miss him a lot...and the comic relief that he lends to every situation.

I have to add that I wish for Mr. Vick absolutely no success in his future endeavors unless and until he's redeemed himself tenfold by donating a chunk of his earnings to the American Humane Society, and donated a few hundred hours community service in a Pit Bull rescue organization...so that he can come to understand what sort of dogs they really are.

i think that man should have received some of the treatment he gave his dogs then he would know what it felt like, animals are like human beings and they just want to be loved. pitbulls are lovable in all way as any other dog. what people need to do is start treating them right!

Isn't it interesting that there are stereotypes about dogs in the same way there are stereotypes about people? And the truth usually holds that all stereotypes are inaccurate. There is always so much that goes into a person, or dog's, background, their nurturing, environment, etc, that plays such an important role in how they turn out as adults. Yes, you can train a pitbull to be a killer, but you can also train it to be friendly amongst everyone. Just like we can raise a child to be an upstanding citizen, or we can raise a child to have criminal tendencies. Nurture is so important; nature as much.

That is a great point bterrierguy, I think it is horrible to blame a dog for what are essentially the actions of his/her owner.
