I'm completely new here, not just to the forums, but to keeping dogs in general - I've never had a dog before, since my parents never allowed it, but I do plan to get one someday, and I hope I can learn a lot here so that I can keep my future dogs happy and healthy. I know that I want a Siberian Husky and a Pembroke Welsh Corgi. It's never too early to start planning! :)

Siberians are completely different from any dog you'll every have. Are you prepared to never have a dog that can be off of a leash? and one that blows their coat every year? you will have to RUN with this dog, they need hordes of exercise. here is the website for my breeder feel free to ask them any questions. http://www.hiddentreasuresiberians.com/qualifyingforasiberian.html

Thanks for the advice and website, siberianhusky101! Yes, I've read most of the "about the breed" type pages on all the breeder's websites that I could find, as well as other stories and general information pages. I know that I need a fence that's at least 6 feet high, with another 1-2 feet planted into the ground, and that they have to be kept on a leash all the time when they're outside. I heard from a friend that her neighbor let his dog run around his yard on a clothesline-leash - I wonder if this could be a good solution to allow the dog to safely exercise and enjoy the yard while saving my house from destruction from boredom while I'm not there? Also, if I were to allow the corgi into the yard with the husky, would that be enough to keep it company?

Hi Celes !
It is great that you are taking time to research breeds before taking that big step. Listen to siberianhusky101 and all the husky members here. My neighbor has a husky and I have never seen her with him offleash. This is her second one. Now she has have a fenced yard but before that she would clothesline tie him when he needed out.
I had a Corgie and they make a great first dog for a family. Smart and extremely loyal. The only time she ever left the yard was when my next door neighbors went on vacation. She took it upon herself to sit on their front porch a few minutes a day as though it was her responsibility to guard their house while they were gone. I'm serious. They do shed some more than others. My Erin had a really thick coat and would fill an entire grocery bag with one brushing. They make a good watch dog. Mine was healthy up until she was over ten and then started having problems with her back and hind legs. Mine tended to get a little pudgy so when training her I used her dog food for treats. Not hyper or very active indoors. Loved a good game of fetch and when returning with the ball would throw it at me! Good with cats but sometime snappish with other dogs in the home but nothing extreme.
Hope you find this helpful. Good luck in your search.
