I also just joined -- and since the whole family is traumatized by the loss of our Rosy last Saturday, I've been consoling myself by researching breeds -- i can't take a chance this time on a shelter dog. 3 cats, 15, 5, and < 1.
AFter looking at a ton of these on-line questionnaires, and reading a very good book written by several trainers, I am very interested in the Cavalier King Charles spaniel. I'd really like to hear what you think about the breed, especially how you would contrast their personality against other breed you have known. Do you think one would be small enough to take into an airplane (human section, not cargo)? Do they tend towards timidity at all?
Waiting with bated breath! :p

they are good as long as you find a VERY high quality breeder. they are very prone to heart conditions and are becoming a part of the million dollar mutt craze.

A cavalier who has been properly socialized and raised by an excellent breeder will not be timid! It would depend on the cav as to whether I would take the on a plane. My male is on the larger side at 24 lbs I would not take him, but my female I would definitely consider as she is only 14.5lbs. They are not a vocal dog, but love their people. They should never be shy. If they are they have not been treated properly. They do have heart problems, but purchased from a breeder who does the checks for MVD decreases your chance of having a cav end up with problems. They are willing animals who live to be with you and please you. None of my dogs have been hard to train, where some of the larger dogs I have had in the past have been. The other thing with cavs you need to know is you must be willing to deal with sheddin and having to brush them a fair amount as they will mat by their ears and hind legs. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask! I love to talk about my crew
