What color is most exciting on a dog? I've been thinking about this intensely lately and assume that dogs evolved the colors they have in order to hunt (maybe even people) in the wild. I dont get how some pungent colors like that orange dog someone posted a picture of earlier could manifest themselfs in nature? thoughts? intellectual replies only, please.

I think a dog's color is as much a product of her evolutionary background as it is of the hand of man. Many breeds' colors are a result of very particular breeding. For example, the orange color one finds one a Brittany is the result of breeding between a mahagony-colored breed and a yellow-breed.

OBVIOUSLY I was not talking about painting or dying your pets with your hands. I meant how they developed over tons of years.

I'm not sure about all that. I've taken classes on genetics and how traits are passed on from one generation to the next, and from what I understand, if a red cock and a white hen get it on, the chick will be either red or white, not pink. I'm note sure if mixing yellow and brown makes orange in the dog world.
