We are Dr. Michael Wayda and Ms. Denyse Kruger. My father raised German Shepherds when I was a boy and by 1960 I had joined him in his efforts to breed the perfect German Shepherd. Denyse’s mother bred miniature poodles and she joined her mom’s efforts later in the 1960’s. My father was known for spelling words to his German Shepherds and they would obey his spelled commands. The first memory I have as a child was of one of my Dad’s bitches, Candy. My father had trained Candy to herd me back toward the house if I got near the street although my parents never left me in the front yard alone. I can still remember the smell of Candy’s coat as she brushed past my face to turn me away from the road. That experience started a life long appreciation and love for all canines. I bought my first Bullmastiff puppy in 1979. He was a son of the great Ch. Tauralan Vic Torious that is at the base of the American pedigree in the United States. I bought him from a breeder in Oxnard, California but we had to wait for him to be old enough to leave the litter so I bought a three year old neutered bitch playmate for him. The site of them playing was heart warming and sold my three children on the breed from the beginning. I have owned other Bullmastiffs over the years and I thought that some day I would like to breed them. Denyse had joined me and she was told many stories of Bullmastiff nature that delighted her. We discussed breeding Bullmastiffs at length. The searched for our foundation stock took us to several states to look at forty-nine puppies before we found the fiftieth puppy of our dreams. The puppy was a gorgeous fawn male that had three of the GOLD Register of Merit dogs in his immediate pedigree so we purchased Trusty and started his training. A year and a half later a nice bridle bitch puppy became available that had four GOLD Register of Merit dogs in her immediate pedigree so we purchased Tessa. Watching the two develop and hoping that they would turn out to be excellent specimens was somewhat stressful but they didn’t know it as they enjoyed their young lives together. One of the requirements of purchasing Trusty was that he had to be shown. It had been years since we showed a dog but we decided that Trusty was worth the effort and agreed to show him prior to purchase. Trusty and Denyse finished his AKC Conformation Championship in record time winning five shows in six weeks for his title. Trusty and Tessa were eventually bred starting Royal Bullmastiffs in 1995. Since that time we have added Bullmastiffs from Knatchbull Bullmastiffs in Canada, Castro-Castalia Bullmastiffs in Spain, and Miracle Bulls in the Czech Republic. Tessa soon became the undisputed matriarch of our home and ruled our growing pack with a calm assertive paw. Over the years; my Bullmastiff articles have been published in twenty-seven Bullmastiff publications in seven countries including the United States (American Bullmastiff Association Journal, Bullseye and the Hoflin Bullmastiff Annual), Canada, Norway, Spain, Brazil, Australia and the two oldest Bullmastiff newsletters in England. We have had more than our share of success in the ring but our goal still remains finding excellent homes for our Bullmastiff puppies so that families can enjoy the benefits of owning a quality Bullmastiff. We are Royal Bullmastiffs!
