Thank you for the information. I have adopted my second Boston Terrier. #1 was neglected, #2 is a puppymill mom. It is amazing how #2 is coming around simply with love, attention and a schedule. She has the most beautiful fur and such expressive eyes. I'm having trouble housebreaking (it's been 7 months), but it's better than it was in the beginning. It is so rewarding to watch this dog blossom. Despite the potty issue, I'd do it all over again.

I've got 5 mill babies that we have rescued. Some are truly easy to deal with - they come around fast and learn to love and enjoy the returned love! Then there are those who are my "haunted" ones. There is nothing but fear behind the eyes... They love to play with the other dogs but as soon as you come around, they freeze up. They are the ones that break my heart the most. Thanks for the info! We who work with these dogs can never have enough!

Thank you so much for writing this information. I adopted a corgi from the corgi rescue a month ago. He is afraid of everything, doesn't bark, not even a tale wag.He is house broken and walks on a leash. He hides in the hallway and won't eat if i'm watching.I do beleive he came from a puppy mill. I am working to make his life a happy one here with me. He is finally taking treats from my hand which was the highlight of my day. Thank you for the great advice. Donna

I have been searching the web for info on caring for puppy mill rescues since I have one in my care.Mine is from a wonderful Golden retriever rescue in Minnesota called RAGOM( Rescue a Golden of Minnesota) I am his foster dog mom. He is nine years old and has spent his intire life in a mill. Your article,"Rehabilation of a puppy mill dog" has given me a good perspective on what to do as he has many of the problems mentioned. I will continue to treat him with kindness and patience and prepare him to have a good adjustmentin his "forever" home. He has a long way to go but I know he can make it. Thank you for posting the article. Liz S.

Very helpful info. I am currently fostering a rescued puppy mill mom and I have no idea to deal with her. Luckily from your article, it seems that I am doing the right thing by being patient and letting her be her for now (had her for 4 days) I am so hopeful that she comes around and learns to enjoy life and can find her forever family soon!

Thank you so much for this information. I just adopted from the Humane Society a 2 year old Cocker and I am quite overwhelmed with this undertaking. I will follow your advice on the feeding because she won't eat unless I'm not around and of course she doesn't know what grass is or a colar or a leash. Jackie
